Whether you talk to your boss, interview for a job, or give a presentation, today’s 6 words will help you sound stronger and more persuasive. These words are extremely effective in adding emphasis (podkreślenie) and intensity  (intensywność) to your language. 

However, it’s essential to use them only from time to time. Using them too often might have the opposite effect, making your language seem exaggerated (wyolbrzymiony) or insincere (nieszczery). Practice using these simple words in your English communication in a natural and authentic manner, and they will definitely improve your language skills and help you sound more impressive.

These words are:

„very,” „so,” „extremely,” „such”, „absolutely,” and „definitely” 

Let’s go!

1. Very – Bardzo

Well, let’s begin with the most popular word that makes adjectives and adverbs stronger. This word is ’very’ – bardzo. Zauważ, że 'very’ wzmacnia tylko przymiotniki i przysłówki, ale nie czasowniki. So in English you cannot say „I very like it” . This is a mistake. You should say: „I really like it” or „I like it very much.”

Zauważ, że po przymiotniku nie ma żadnego rzeczownika. To bardzo istotne.

Dosłownie: ekstremalnie, 'extremely’ można tłumaczyć na wiele sposobów: niezwykle, szczególnie, wyjątkowo, niezmiernie, niesamowicie itd. 'Extremely’ opisuje przymiotniki i przysłówki np.

He walks extremely fast. 

She drives extremely slow. 

The movie was extremely boring.

4. Such a/an – Taki

Such a / Such an  opisuje przymiotnik z rzeczownikiem. Np. 

He’s such a cute little boy. 

It’s such an interesting movie.

Nie możemy powiedzieć.  He’s so cute little boy. 'So’ idzie tylko z przymiotnikiem. Natomiast 'such’ wymaga rzeczownika na końcu.

Zwróć uwagę, że dodatkowo 'such’ idzie w parze z rodzajnikiem 'a/an’, który dobieramy zgodnie z pierwszym dźwiękiem kolejnego słowa. 

Jeśli pierwszy dźwięk to spółgłoska to użyjesz 'such a’ – 

Such a nice boy.  

Such a boring night.

Jeśli pierwszy dźwięk to samogłoska to użyjesz  'such an’ np. 

Such an interesting movie. 

Such an awesome event.

5. Absolutely – Absolutnie, całkowicie

We can use absolutely with adjectives and verbs. In this episode we will practise adjectives, in the next one we will practise 'absolutely’ with verbs.

Mogę pana zapewnić, że jest całkowicie bezpieczny.

I can assure you, sir, it’s absolutely safe.

6. Definitely – Zdecydowanie, na bank, bez wątpienia

And the last word is definitely one of the most popular words in English. We use 'definitely’ with adjectives and verbs. Just like absolutely. And yes, we will also practise it in the next episode too.
