Are you a smart person? Do you sometimes want to say that someone is not that smart but has some other good qualities? In today’s episode we will practise 3 idioms you can use to say that someone is not very intelligent. 

First of all, to call someone intelligent we usually say 'you’re smart’, but we can also say: you’re sharp, you’re bright

Sharp, what things are sharp? Knives are sharp, right? OK and where do we keep knives in the kitchen? We usually keep them in a drawer. W szufladzie. In a drawer. – So the first idiom is: 

He’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer. – Nie jest najostrzejszym nożem w szufladzie

What else can be sharp? Do you have a house with a garden? Or maybe a summer cottage czyli działka z domem – a summer cottage? Then you must have some tools to do gardening there, right? And where do you keep these tools? We usually keep gardening tools in a shed. A shed is a small, usually wooden, house, but not for people to live in. It’s a special place that people use to store things like gardening tools. A shed to szopa, a shed. So the second idiom is:

He’s not the sharpest tool in the shed – Nie jest najostrzejszym narzędziem w szopie.

I also said, we can call someone bright – bright means jasny, świecący. So what things are bright? Well, for example bulbs – żarówki – bulbs. So the third idiom goes like this:

He’s not the brightest bulb – Nie jest najjaśniejszą żarówką.
